For the Waters We Love

Think of a body of water you know well. Perhaps it’s the pond behind your house, the river where you caught your first fish, or the lake where you learned to swim on summer days spent at your parent’s cabin. Perhaps it’s the stream you cross every day on your way to school or work.

Take a few deep breaths, and a few more. Close your eyes. Bring this body of water to your mind’s eye. Picture it, smell it, listen to the sounds surrounding this body of water. Just be with it. When you are done visiting this body of water, take a pen, watercolors or charcoal and draw this body of water.

What will you do to protect this body of water which you love? Imagine sharing your story with others in the hopes they will feel the love you have for this water, this nibi, this zibiin, river, this lake, or ocean. And in sharing this feeling, they will create their own actions needed to save our waterways.
