Day 11

How did ancient people live in the SW of North America?

Canal

People have been living in the southwest US for thousands of years. How did they cope with the arid environment? Many of those communities created irrigation systems to water their agricultural production. The most extensive irrigation systems in North America were developed by the Hohokam, in the area now occupied by Phoenix. In fact, it was the discovery of the old irrigation canals that stimulated European settlers to settle in the Phoenix area. In this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvxP3ksCYHk) you can learn about the complex and advanced society of the Hohokam and their water management.
