Day 25

Colorado River allocation

🌊 Our Precious Colorado River: Facing a Water Crisis 🌊

Did you know that the Colorado River, the lifeline of the American Southwest, is facing a critical challenge? 🏞️ The Colorado River Compact once assumed an average flow of 16.5 Million Acre Feet (MAF) per year, but the reality, as revealed by tree ring data, is starkly different. Over the last 900 years, the average flow was only 14.3 MAF, and from 2000 to 2020, it dropped to a mere 12.4 MAF. 😥

This water budget deficit has taken a toll, pushing Lake Powell and Lake Mead to record-breaking low levels in 2022. 💧 To stabilize our precious river system, the Bureau of Reclamation has called for 2-4 MAF in cuts. But here’s the question: How can YOU make a difference and reduce our water footprint? 🌍💙

Join the conversation, share your ideas, and let’s work together for a sustainable future! 🌱💧 #ColoradoRiverCrisis #WaterConservation #SustainableFuture #TogetherWeCan
